Transit authorities in the United States refused to allow posters about Turkey’s July 15, 2016 coup attempt to be displayed on billboards, saying the material was political.
MÜSİAD USA President Mustafa Tuncer said the association had reached agreements with intermediary advertising companies to publish the materials in several locations in the United States.
“When MÜSİAD USA submitted the content it had prepared for all billboards, we received a negative response from the metro station operators,” Tuncer said, according to the report.
He said the authorities unilaterally canceled permission despite an agreement because they considered the material “political.”
The posters concerned the July 15 coup attempt, which Ankara blames on the Gülen movement, a transnational civic initiative inspired by Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen. Ankara designates the movement as a terrorist organization. The movement denies involvement in the coup or any terrorist activity.
