Turkish prosecutors in Ankara issued detention warrants for 38 employees of state broadcaster TRT as part of an investigation into alleged links to the Gülen movement, according to an April 7, 2017 report.
The 38 sought had previously been suspended from their positions, the report said.
According to the report, those targeted by the warrants included news anchors, reporters and inspectors.
TRT, Turkey’s public broadcaster, became one of the institutions targeted by post-coup purges and investigations after the July 15, 2016 coup attempt.
Ankara blames the coup attempt on the Gülen movement, a transnational civic initiative inspired by Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, and designates the movement as a terrorist organization. The movement denies involvement in the coup or any terrorist activity.
