Turkish prosecutors in İstanbul issued detention warrants for 80 people as part of a new operation targeting alleged links to the Gülen movement.
Police teams from the İstanbul Financial Crimes Combatting Branch Directorate carried out simultaneous raids across multiple provinces to detain the suspects as part of the continuing post-coup crackdown on people accused of affiliation with the movement.
Ankara blames the coup attempt on the Gülen movement, a transnational civic initiative inspired by Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, and designates the movement as a terrorist organization. The movement denies involvement in the coup or any terrorist activity.
