Hüseyin Sarı, the former Republican People’s Party (CHP) mayor of Erdek, has been taken into police custody over a social media post allegedly concerning Turkey’s July 15, 2016 coup attempt.
“YOU SLIT THE THROATS OF INNOCENT SOLDIERS”
Sarı allegedly shared a post on his Facebook account stating, “Is your epic cutting the throats of innocent soldiers and killing them for no reason? To hell with your epic.”
INTERIOR MINISTER SOYLU ANNOUNCES DETENTION
Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu subsequently announced that Sarı had been detained.
In a statement shared on Twitter, Soylu declared that an investigation had been launched against Sarı on charges of “spreading terrorist propaganda,” “praising a crime and a criminal,” and “inciting the public to hatred and hostility.”
