Turkish prosecutors in the northwestern province of Tekirdağ issued detention warrants for 40 soldiers in nine provinces as part of an investigation into alleged links to the Gülen movement, according to a July 12, 2017 report.
The operation covered nine provinces, including Tekirdağ.
After the warrants were issued, teams from the Tekirdağ Police Department’s Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch began efforts to detain those sought.
Ankara blames the coup attempt on the Gülen movement, a transnational civic initiative inspired by Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, and designates the movement as a terrorist organization. The movement denies involvement in the coup or any terrorist activity.
