Turkish police detained 55 people in a Diyarbakır-based operation across 26 provinces as part of an investigation into alleged links to the Gülen movement, according to a November 16, 2017 report.
Counterterrorism police carried out simultaneous raids in 26 provinces based in Diyarbakır, detaining 21 more people after an initial wave of arrests.
The report said 55 suspects, including 24 active-duty soldiers, were in police custody and undergoing processing.
Authorities were still seeking one remaining suspect as part of the investigation.
The previous day, police had detained 34 people, 24 of them active-duty soldiers, in the same operation.
Ankara blames the coup attempt on the Gülen movement, a transnational civic initiative inspired by Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, and designates the movement as a terrorist organization. The movement denies involvement in the coup or any terrorist activity.
