Uzun, who represented the southern province of Mersin in Turkey’s 24th legislative term, had been detained earlier in the week during mass operations launched after Turkey’s July 15, 2016 coup attempt.
Prosecutors referred him to court with a request for formal arrest after his police interrogation.
The court accepted the request and ordered Uzun jailed pending trial.
Who is Ahmet Tevfik Uzun?
Uzun was born in Tarsus in 1968 and graduated from the İstanbul University Faculty of Pharmacy.
He entered public office in 2004, when he was elected as a member of the Provincial General Assembly.
Uzun speaks English, is married and has four children.
Ankara blames the coup attempt on the Gülen movement, a transnational civic initiative inspired by Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, and designates the movement as a terrorist organization. The movement denies involvement in the coup or any terrorist activity.
