A Turkish court sentenced all 18 defendants in the trial over the killing of Noncommissioned Officer Ömer Halisdemir to aggravated life in prison.
Terzi had arrived at the command headquarters during the coup attempt, and Halisdemir’s killing became one of the most prominent cases in the post-coup trials.
The court issued its verdict in the case concerning Halisdemir’s death, handing down aggravated life sentences to all 18 defendants on trial.
Ankara blames the coup attempt on the Gülen movement, a transnational civic initiative inspired by Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, and designates the movement as a terrorist organization. The movement denies involvement in the coup or any terrorist activity.
