Turkish authorities issued detention warrants for 191 people in two separate operations carried out under the state of emergency declared after Turkey’s July 15, 2016 coup attempt, according to an October 26, 2017 report by TR724 news website.
A second operation, carried out in 30 provinces including Ankara, targeted 121 former employees of the Foreign Ministry.
TR724 described the operations as unlawful and said detentions under the post-coup state of emergency were continuing to increase.
The report said both operations were ongoing at the time of publication.
Ankara blames the coup attempt on the Gülen movement, a transnational civic initiative inspired by Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, and designates the movement as a terrorist organization. The movement denies involvement in the coup or any terrorist activity.
