Those named in the warrants included one active-duty major, two captains, two first lieutenants, 18 warrant officers and five specialist sergeants.
The warrants also covered one dismissed captain, one dismissed lieutenant, four dismissed warrant officers, two retired warrant officers, one specialist sergeant whose contract had been terminated and four students expelled from military school.
Officers from the İzmir Police Department launched raids in İzmir and 17 other provinces on the morning of the operation.
The raids were carried out simultaneously in İstanbul, Ankara, Bursa, Kayseri, Balıkesir, Kütahya, Mardin, Yalova, Çorum, Muğla, Amasya, Kahramanmaraş, Kocaeli, Mersin, Eskişehir, Hatay and Van.
Ankara blames the coup attempt on the Gülen movement, a transnational civic initiative inspired by Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, and designates the movement as a terrorist organization. The movement denies involvement in the coup or any terrorist activity.
