Fatma Okka, whose son Burak Okka was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Orhanlı Toll Booths case, condemned the decision upholding the sentences of 60 former Air Force Academy cadets over Turkey’s July 15, 2016 coup attempt.
“These children are the children of the nation. These children should have been protected,” Okka told Bold Medya.
The cadets said their commanders woke them during a military training camp, told them there was a terrorist attack and transported them to İstanbul without disclosing that a coup attempt was underway.
Okka described the family’s first prison visit after the ruling and spoke about the life her son hopes to rebuild if he is released.
