Journalist Adem Yavuz Arslan examines how Adil Öksüz, whom Ankara portrays as a central civilian organizer of Turkey’s July 15, 2016 coup attempt, was released from custody, moved freely after leaving court and then disappeared despite becoming the country’s most wanted suspect. Arslan argues that Öksüz’s treatment by the gendarmerie, police and judiciary raises the question of whether state authorities protected his escape rather than tried to prevent it.
