Former Turkish Air Force Brig. Gen. Mehmet Yalınalp said then Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar failed to intervene in the events at Akıncı Air Base during Turkey’s July 15, 2016 coup attempt and that Akar’s later statements conflict with footage and testimony from the base.
Speaking to Alesta, a channel founded by former military officers dismissed after the coup attempt, Yalınalp also described how military cadets were sent to the Bosporus Bridge without being told that a coup was underway, arguing that they were deliberately placed in danger and later prosecuted for events they did not understand.
