A Turkish court has acquitted Lt. Col. Gurbet Keskin in what was reported as the first acquittal in a trial related to Turkey’s July 15, 2016 coup attempt.
Prosecutors had sought an aggravated life sentence for Keskin. His wife and two children were evicted from military housing after his arrest.
The Adıyaman 2nd High Criminal Court issued the verdict on Tuesday.
Despite the prosecutor’s request for a conviction, the court acquitted Keskin and said its detailed reasoning would be released later.
