Previously, Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar had testified that while he was being taken from the headquarters by soldiers, he noticed a “fully equipped soldier wearing a steel helmet and carrying a weapon, with a frightening facial expression,” whom he later identified as Alakuş.
“MY TEAM AND I WERE LED INTO A TRAP”
Rejecting the accusations, Alakuş stated, “I have fought against all terrorist organizations targeting the Republic of Turkey. I have no connection to the group accused of the coup. I do not know who planned this attempt. I performed my duty within the chain of command to ensure the security of the General Staff. I believe my team and I were led into a trap.”
ORDERS CAME FROM ZEKAİ AKSAKALLI
Alakuş claimed that his specific mission was “to reinforce the General Staff against a possible terrorist action based on received intelligence. I was personally assigned this mission by Special Forces Commander Zekai Aksakallı. I was told to learn the details from Colonel Ümit Bak.”
